Crater Lake
We’ve had mostly cool days and cold nights on this trip. It even snowed on a few travel days making us Florida-raised drivers sit up and take notice. A few nights the rain puddles and Barnie’s outside water dish have frozen but the snow is never very deep nor says too long on the ground. But we really got to see and play in the snow at Crater Lake (elevation 6,178 feet)
The road and parking lots are cleared but still 2-3 foot deep snow everywhere else. You have to go over (or through) the snow to get to the best views of the beautiful blue lake. You were lucky if it’s only up to your knees, but Josh found a good place to take pictures where the snow was up to his tush. Of course I threw the required snowball at him.
Josh has been curious about getting snowshoes, so when we saw there is a ranger-led snowshoe trek, Josh went. The walk was 2 ½ hours through the snow-covered wilderness, including a different view of the lake. Now that he’s tried it, he’s looking to get a pair of his own. Where we live in Maryland doesn’t get much snow but Josh will use them when he can and we may even go FIND snow to play in next winter. (Note from Josh: He will.)
I did not go snowshoeing as I am not in shape for that strenuous activity but I did enjoy a cup of Hot soup and Hot Chocolate in the visitor center Café.
